A Quiet Current: Hangzhou

Five days of tea, temples and lakeside living

Stay at Zhejiang Xizi Hotel beside West Lake and explore Hangzhou with your bilingual host, Jersey. A full Longjing tea day sits alongside temple visits, spring water and the city's historic houses and apothecary traditions.

The five days

  1. Arrive and explore West Lake's quieter waterways.
  2. Spend a day with Longjing tea, from the hills to a guided tasting.
  3. Visit Lingyin Temple, Hupao Spring and a pagoda or bamboo path.
  4. Explore Hu Qing Yu Tang and Hu Xueyan's former residence.
  5. Finish with a green morning at Qingshan Lake or a cultural alternative.

A Slow Fire: Chengdu

Six days of Sichuan food, tea and craft

Learn what goes into Sichuan cooking, visit Wolong for a conservation programme, watch Sichuan opera and try bamboo weaving in Daoming. There is time for teahouses and a game of mahjong too.

The six days

  1. Settle in with private tea and a Sichuan dinner.
  2. Explore fermentation and cooking in a practical class.
  3. Visit Wolong for a Panda Conservation Day.
  4. Get to know Sichuan opera and Chengdu's teahouses.
  5. Spend a day making with bamboo in Daoming Village.
  6. Learn the basics of mahjong before departure.
